What type of insurance will cover a newborn baby from a mother who is a single minor?

Question by Bri B.: What type of insurance will cover a newborn baby from a mother who is a single minor?
I am a single soon-to-be mother who is also under 18. I plan to keep this baby with the support my family can provide and the money I save from two jobs. what type of insurance can cover the baby once it's born. I am covered under my fathers insurance through labor and delivery however from then on the baby is not.
Please help.

Thankyou.

Only public aid. That's your only option since you obviously can't afford insurance. You're welcome for paying for your kid, even though I didn't spread. Your parents must be so proud.

  1. Medicaid. Unless you can get insurance through one of your jobs.

  2. You should check into your job and family services center. They will be able to help direct you in the right place because you may qualify for free health care through the state.

  3. You buy individual insurance. Blue Cross/Blue Shield, for instance, has coverage for individual children. It’s about $ 90/month or so. Call around and get quotes. HMOs and PPOs generally are less costly, but they restrict you to doctors within their plan. That is fine for me because they are conveniently close, but may not be for you.

You can also apply to Social Services. My state now has a plan to cover all children. If you can pay a portion, you’ll get a better quality plan than Medicaid. Because they pay higher rates, more doctors take that plan.

  4. I was 18 when I got pregnant with my son. I had to go on Medicaid for pregnant women. It covered me through my 6wk check and my son stayed covered, Something you may want to check into. Medicaid for pregnant women is a bit different than regular medicaid
