does liability insurance cover if you hit a house?
Question by Susan D: does liability insurance cover if you hit a house?
I was helping my daughter move this weekend. Her husband parked the moving truck at the top of the driveway, it ended up rolling down the driveway and hit and destroyed our carport and damaged our truck that was parked there. It is their fault so if U-Haul doesn't cover this will her car insurance pay for the damages? She only has liability insurance on her car and there was only liability on the truck.

Most car liability insurance policies do cover the policyholder in a rental car. It's not certain if your daughters policy extends coverage to a rental truck. You'll need to read the policy or call her agent for an answer.

Car insurance policies do not cover for damages caused by rental trucks. She will have to pay for the damages to the rental and your house herself.

She would need to check with her insurance company to see if her policy covers rental trucks, and if her insurance does, then her policy will pay for the damage to your house and truck.

If her policy extends to a rental, then yes, your damages will be covered. But since she only has liability on her policy, the rental truck’s damages are not covered – unless they purchased rental insurance from U-Haul
