Question by Adriane: Cost of general liability insurance for fine arts school?
I'm in the process of opening a school for the fine arts (music, dance and theatre). I'm trying to get a list of expenses together and am curious what it's going to cost me for general liability insurance. We would have less than 10 employees, between 3000 and 4000 square feet of space and operate primarily M-F 3-9pm and S 10am-4pm. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I've written insurance for schools, but never "stand alone" general liability.

The GL rates are based on the number and ages of students, which you didn't include. You also need workers comp coverage. You don't mention if you need property coverage, or if you want accident coverage if the kids get hurt.

For a budget, you're going to have to lay aside somewhere between $ 10,000 and $ 25,000 for insurance - maybe more.

  1. Kind of like asking what is the average cost of auto insurance. The number is meaningless to your specific situation. Answers you receive here will necessarily be so general as to be of little or no value. You need to call an agent. I would call an independent agent because they have access to a wide array of insurers.
